What styles of dancing do you teach?
Hardy: "Belly dancing."
Gates: "All the ballroom styles and all Latin dances."
Rosen: "Modern, tap, jazz, ballet, theater dance, hip-hop and belly dance."
What's your favorite dance and why?
Hardy: "Belly dancing. It encompasses your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and physiological being."
Gates: "My favorite is tango. It's very dramatic, it's challenging, and it's a very passionate dance."
Rosen: "I'm the modern teacher, so that's my favorite. I also really like hip-hop dance."
Besides learning how to dance, what are some other reasons people take lessons?
Hardy: "To help build their self-esteem. Often, they want to become more feminine and graceful."
Gates: "For exercise, weight loss and health issues. It even helps people learn social etiquette."
Rosen: "For physical activity. Dancing burns more calories because you're using your brain at the same time."
How do you charge for dance lessons and what's the cost?
Hardy: "We are set up in five weekly sessions for $90."
Gates: "There are different programs, but the average is $59 to $95 per 45-minute lesson."
Rosen: "I do it by the class - it's more flexible. It's just $12 for a drop-in class. It's about $8 per class if you buy a Class Pass."
How many instructors teach in your studio?
Hardy: "I'm the only one."
Gates: "Between eight and 12 instructors."
Rosen: "Six to eight."
How often do you recommend your clients take a class with you?
Hardy: "Once they sign up, they'll stay the entire 15 months. Class is twice a week."
Gates: "In the beginning, you should keep lessons as close together as possible to build a good foundation. After that, you can go about once a week."
Rosen: "If they're really trying to improve their dance technique, I recommend two to three times a week. If it's for fun or exercise, once a week is fine."
Besides teaching lessons, do you hold any types of dancing events at your studio?
Hardy: "We have our studio parties twice a year, and we entertain at seminars and private parties."
Gates: "The Fred Astaire Dance Studio has eight to 15 different functions throughout the year. It's basically practicing while you have fun."
Rosen: "We're the host for the nonprofit performing company NEW ARTiculations Dance Theatre. They do special projects and community workshops."
