Customer says St. Paul furniture movers overcharged
COMPLAINT: Joe Schaak, Stillwater, Minn.
I hired College Muscle Movers LLC to move much of the furniture from my old 1,700-square-foot house to my new home, including a washer and dryer, piano, weight set and treadmill.
I twice gave them a detailed list of the contents, and they estimated four hours for the move. The total bid was for $510. We were set to move at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and the owner called at 5 p.m. to say they couldn't make it. We rescheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Two movers arrived at 8:30 a.m. without any knowledge of what needed to be moved. They worked hard, but one of them hurt his back around 10:30 a.m. and couldn't continue. Another worker wasn't sent until 3 p.m.
If a friend of mine and I hadn't jumped in to help them, I can't imagine how long it would have taken. I tried to get in touch with the owner, but he never called back.
Overall, it was a terrible experience. I paid the workers $380 directly and asked that the owner call me about the $130 balance. In the end, they charged $800 to my credit card. I won't pay more than the $510 originally quoted. I'll pay the $130 balance I owe with a check.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want all charges removed from my credit card account.
STATUS: Penalty Box
