Customer, HVAC firm dispute contract refund
COMPLAINT: Rudolf Volkmann, Fountain Hills, Ariz.
"I signed a 10-year preventative maintenance contract for $1,600 with Desert Valley Aire Inc. of Phoenix. On the second maintenance visit, I was told my unit would last about six more months. They recommended either getting a new unit or getting extensive work done. I got a second opinion, and realized I had been grossly overcharged, and the unit was still in good condition. I canceled the contract and got $800 of my original $1,600 back."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I believe I should get more of the remaining money returned. I feel that a total charge of $250 for the two visits would be more than fair for the work that was done."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Toni Charles, office manager, Desert Valley Aire Inc.
"I would like to address the member's concerns over his recent refund. Here is a breakdown of the member's charges and refund: $85.73 for tune-ups; $117.85 for a condenser coil wash; $270.99 for a start capacitor; $194.80 for an electric flow switch; $79.90 for a check-up. The total services and parts he received, plus a $50 cancellation fee, equals $800. The difference is his refund. If there are any further questions, feel free to call us at the office."
