COMPLAINT: Jennifer Lloyd, Salem, Ore.
"Right Turn Construction Inc. replaced a deck with an expensive hardwood that is supposed to last 25 years.
"After two months, I noticed several boards had developed long cracks, and there were areas where the surface was peeling and warping.
"I had been told this hardwood doesn't even require treatment with a wood preservative in order to remain in good shape for 20-some years. I immediately began efforts to contact Right Turn, through Kevin Krieger, the project manager.
"He admitted the boards shouldn't be doing that. A few weeks later, a man replaced some of the boards, suggesting they may have been installed by someone who had failed to pre-drill holes.
"There are still four or five boards that have this problem, and I am concerned about the long-term integrity of the deck.
"The company warranties both labor and materials for 10 years. I believe I'm entitled to the high-quality deck I paid for."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like Right Turn to pre-drill holes in and replace the boards that show cracking."
