COMPLAINT: Diane Smith, Cincinnati
"I hired Superior Home Construction & Remodeling to replace a screened-in porch and patio, and to renovate a bathroom. I understood the warranty to be in effect for up to one year.
"Superior's plumber installed the wrong type of drain with the vessel bowl. As a result, the water leaked from the overflow holes of the drain into the bathroom countertop and caused the tile to buckle. Some of the tiles popped up and fell off.
"The plumber had put putty in the area around the overflow holes, but it did not hold the water back.
"I called [owner David Lanford] about the problem, and he said the issue was my fault — because he thought I bought the drain, which I didn't — and that I would have to pay to have the problem corrected.
"It cost me an additional $700 to have the countertop repaired correctly. I'm mostly upset about the way he handled the problem with the bathroom countertop and put blame back on me.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the contractor to honor his warranty, and I want to be reimbursed $500."
STATUS: Penalty Box
