Costs come in under estimate for Columbus fireplace conversion

Tim D. Burkitt Co.

Charles Smith saved money while converting his gas log fireplace back to a wood burning fireplace.

"Tim removed the old copper tubing that fed the gas logs, ran a new pipe, installed a gas-assist line and replaced a valve controlling the gas to the fireplace," Smith says.

"He quoted $365 for the job, which included up to 25 feet of line, but used a lot less than 25 feet and reduced the cost to $330. He even removed his shoes each time he came into the house."

Gas logs are burners used for natural gas or propane operated fireplace units. These burners are concealed within an artificial log, which is made from materials such as fired ceramic clay, molded ceramic fibers or molded refractory cement and designed to look like a real wood log.
