COMPLAINT: Anita and Brian Deeley, Beverly, Mass.
"Jeff [Caira, owner] of Mass Concrete Works Inc. poured a 10 x 25 foot concrete slab for our remodeled addition and completed the job on schedule.
"We found him to be mostly professional, and he promised the slab would be level enough to install a floor. He insisted we pay in cash.
"A few days later, the concrete was cured and we inspected the work. We found sizable gaps and cracks around the slab large enough to fit fingers into, and the surface had visible trowel marks and was not as smooth as he stated.
"Parts of the floor were clearly not level, and you could see a sizable mound in the middle of the floor.
"The floor was so unlevel that it would be impossible to install tiles or any other flooring. The floor needs to be repaired before it can be finished.
"After attempts to reach Jeff, he finally called us back and said he would drop by in a few days to repair the floor, but he didn't show up. He has not returned our phone calls and has stood us up twice."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Jeff needs to either repair the slab he poured and level the floor, pay for us to get it repaired by someone else or refund our money."
STATUS: Penalty Box
