Computer repair shop accused of overcharging for services

COMPLAINT: Silvia Alba, New Augusta, Ind.

"My computer screen wasn't working. Initially, the technician from Indy Home Tech was very responsive and punctual. He showed up on time and I told him what the problem was.

"Without even taking the laptop apart, he said he knew the motherboard's video card had gone bad.

"He said repairs would be cost-prohibitive and that I'd have to get another laptop. I asked him to remove everything on the hard drive so I could add it to another computer.

"He transferred the files to a flash drive. He didn't move my music off my old computer, as requested, and when I gave my computer to a tech-savvy friend, he was able to fix the screen.

"I think I was overcharged because I did not get the complete service that the job required. They also advised me to get a new laptop, so I ended up making an unnecessary purchase.

"Also, I don't know what he deleted from my old laptop, but now it doesn't recognize the hard drive, which prevents Windows from booting up."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want them to return my check and I want to know what he deleted that prevents Windows from starting."

STATUS: Stalemate

Editor's Note: Indy Home Tech responded to Alba's complaint indicating they were unwilling to reach a resolution. The company did not want the response posted.
