*Editor's note: Since Fall 2008, two members have placed Peterson Home Improvements LLC in the Penalty Box for various complaints, and an additional case is still unresolved.
Therefore, as it is our duty at Angie’s List Magazine to print and report these cases to our readers, we have had to name the company several times in the Penalty Box section. This is a rare occurrence.
Columbus spa service complaint
COMPLAINT: Kathy Lipps, Columbus, Ohio
"I hired Spas 4 U to repair my hot tub because of electrical storm damage to the board and heating element. [Owner] Larry Grady never showed up. After I called, he finally showed up the next day with a ceramic heater. He filled my hot tub to check what was and wasn't working.
"I was on the phone with the insurance adjuster when he left, and when I went down to check on the hot tub, water was pouring onto my patio. I typically attach a hose and take it out into the yard.
"I asked Larry if he winterized the hot tub, since he let out the water, and he started yelling at me and said he was not baby-sitting my hot tub and that I needed to winterize it. I thought that was what I was hiring him for. I proceeded to call other spa repair people, and they all said at this time of year, if they emptied a hot tub, they would winterize it.
"When Larry left, instead of walking around the house, he walked through my house on white carpet with wet shoes caked with mud and mulch. I was appalled at the lack of respect he had for my property. The last time I talked to him, he cussed at me, so I hung up.
"Another company came out and refuted the problems he said existed. Then he sent me a bill for $333 worth of parts that he never should have ordered. I am not going to pay the bill. I have no obligation to pay for services that were not rendered and/or defectively performed.
"There was no discussion of restocking charges or advice that any such charges were involved on the repair services. The estimate is silent in that regard also. Needless to say, I won't be using him again and have hired someone else to finish the work."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Larry owes me $140 for cleaning and repairing my carpet."

Columbus tuxedo rental complaint
COMPLAINT: Karl Orient, Strongsville, Ohio
"I rented a tuxedo from Romanoff's Classic Tuxedo. I was fitted at the store and everything fit. When I was getting dressed for the wedding, I found that the button was missing on my pants.
"There was also a 4-inch hole down the seam of the leg where my leg was exposed. Additionally, they did a poor hemming job and throughout the night, I felt the hem flapping against my leg."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "With half of the wedding party having had problems with their tuxedos, including me, I feel a fair resolution would be a refund of $165, which covers half the tuxedo rental cost."
STATUS: Penalty Box
