Client claims window treatment firm's trip charge is shady
COMPLAINT: Martin and Micki Seltzer, Columbus, Ohio
"A representative from Accent Draperies of Columbus, Ohio, came to examine our Roman shades and blinds that needed restringing. He pulled the blinds up and down and told us they couldn't be fixed. When I called initially, they informed us there would be a trip charge; however, they didn't tell us they wouldn't fix shades that were past a certain age.
"Our contention is if they don't repair blinds over a certain age, they should tell you that up front and not send out someone who will charge you $75 for doing nothing and causing further damage to your shades. The next time we tried to use the blinds, they were in worse shape than before; we could no longer pull them up and down easily. We will have to replace them, which we would not have done previously."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We want a $75 refund."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Jennifer Jeffers, manager, Accent Draperies
"The age of a blind is not the determining factor as to whether or not we can repair a blind; what's broken determines that. In this case, a string was fraying and about to break. We do not manufacture blinds and therefore do not restring them. We advised the members of all this in advance and [they] chose to proceed with the service call."
