Client claims home inspector owes for wiring work
COMPLAINT: Louisa Gonyou, Oregon City, Ore.
"Justin Thies of Premier Home Inspections in Clackamas, Ore., was hired to inspect the historic house my husband and I were buying. He did not tell us the house had knob and tube wiring. We had to get the house rewired before insulation contractors would install insulation, which set us back several thousand dollars.
"I called him when we learned of the wiring, and he said his home inspections provide general condition of the house to the prospective buyer. I would consider the type of wiring important information if it is not up to code or not normal. We would have offered less for the house if we had known about it."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I feel the inspector should be responsible for at least a portion of the cost of rewiring the house [$3,000]."
