Chicago fur coat store issues reluctant refund

COMPLAINT: Stuart Rifkind, Park Ridge, Ill.

"I signed a purchase order at Barth Wind Elan Furs on a Saturday, but I wasn’t told that all sales were final. After I got to the car, I called and asked them to not proceed with the order.

"I said I’d call back no later than Monday with a decision. On Sunday at about noon, I went back to the store and requested that my card be credited. The store manager said that they couldn’t credit my card, but they’d give me store credit."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a refund."

RESPONSE: Ken Levy, customer service manager, Elan Furs

"It’s the policy of Elan Furs to satisfy all of our clients. It’s clearly stated on all sales receipts “All Sales Final” directly underneath the signature line.

"Plus, as a courtesy, we also stamp all receipts in red ink emphasizing this. He was apprised of our return policy on more that one occasion and signed the sales receipt. We will be issuing a refund as part of our continuing customer service efforts.

"'Buyers remorse' isn’t an acceptable reason for a refund."
