Car owner alleges auto repair shop gave misleading information
COMPLAINT: Rebecca Briggs, Missouri City, Texas
"I went to Auto Check in Houston for a state inspection on a certified used Toyota. They told me it would fail the inspection because the serpentine belt was cracked and needed to be replaced. I agreed to the repair and paid my bill. I later read the Texas inspection criteria and it states inspections are not to be rejected merely for serpentine belt cracks. When I returned, they said they had only 'recommended' the replacement."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "A written apology and a refund for the cost of the belt and installation."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Shaun Yarun, general manager, Auto Check
"The member's serpentine belt had many cracks, a sign that the belt could snap at any time. We did not tell her she would fail inspection, it was simply a recommendation. I believe she misunderstood the conversation.
