Builder, homeowner wrangle over roof warranty
COMPLAINT: Mark Manta, Orland Park, Ill.
"I hired Home Pro of Oldsmar [Fla.] to add a sunroom to my house in Florida in 2008. I received numerous warranties for this work, including Home Pro's two-year warranty. When I went to sell the house, I had a home inspection performed.
"Everything passed except for the sunroom's roof, which I had to have repaired at a cost of $2,375. When I advised Home Pro of the situation, the president refused to honor the warranty because the manufacturer that provided it had gone out of business. However, Home Pro had given me their two-year warranty.
"They said they were now a new company and had no legal responsibility to uphold the warranty. When I looked up their incorporation information, I saw that they were incorporated in 1998 and the registration still active."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want Home Pro to pay for the $2,375 repair cost."
STATUS: Penalty Box
