Boston-area customer claims flashing fix worsens leak
COMPLAINT: Joseph Salah, Carlisle, Mass.
"AB Masonry of Groton [Mass.] rebuilt my brick chimney and replaced the lead flashing after water leaks occurred. The flashing repair work was shoddy, and the water leaks became worse.
"The work was warranted in writing for five years, but the contractor has been non-responsive and hasn't fixed the problem. I no longer have confidence in AB Masonry to do the job right and will not wait for them, since they are unprofessional. I am hiring a new mason who recommends redoing the entire chimney work, including the flashing."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "AB Masonry should refund me $2,800. However, as a compromise, I would accept $1,000 for their flashing work, since that is the main reason for the leaks."
