Description of work: "Rick [Sementa, the owner] specializes in art deco and Mid-Century modern furnishings. I just walked in off the street one day and was smitten with their stock. Now, they've bought from and sold to me. Their knowledge is comprehensive. They do their own research and will sometimes visit with original manufacturers to get the whole story on iconic pieces. Rick is especially wonderful at educating [the customer]. They're fair, honest and friendly."
Member comments: "I feel the transactions we've had so far are excellent. I wish I could buy most of the stock in the Cambridge store. I believe that when I buy from or sell to them, that I'm getting a fair shake and, more importantly, a beautiful piece of quality furniture that will hold or perhaps increase in value over time. They've also offered great advice on how to care for my furniture. They make furnishing [my home] an adventure and a delight."
So how often does Heath visit 20th Century Provenance? "It depends on how likely I am to give into temptation," she says. "If I'm feeling like I have some self control, I'll drop by. If not, maybe I'll do a drive-by to see the window display. I've been known to stalk pieces. My furniture refinisher calls me a furniture addict." Heath's former living room shows off her passion for antique furnishings. "The beautiful materials, especially wood, and the clean lines of both art deco and Mid-Century modern pieces unify my love for the two disparate design styles," Heath says. Heath says her most recent purchase was a John Stuart 1940s bureau and nightstand set in mahogany.
