Bothersome bathroom
COMPLAINT: Cheryl Moroff, Reisterstown, Md.
"I hired Accent Kitchen & Bath to remodel my bathroom. They were hired to install a vanity, medicine chest, bathtub, air vents and to spackle the walls. The products specified were either broken, poorly installed or not appropriate for installation. Elliot [Leban, company president] was involved in the design, and I felt he did what he wanted to do and not what I wanted to do. They made promises and didn't deliver, and they ignored my requests."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like a refund of $11,630."
RESPONSE: Elliot Leban, president, Accent Kitchen & Bath
"Accent Kitchen & Bath charged the member $7,200 for labor and about $2,000 for products. The member is confused about charges. She needs to finish the floor and plumbing with other contractors, then we can finish.
"We didn't paint the back of her vanity or the back of the cabinets recessed into the walls. We didn't paint the subfloor that was to be covered with plastic sheeting and cork. We didn't fill the one-eighth inch separation needed for expansion between the floor and drywall.
"The member painted and caulked everything! She nastily advised us that we weren't doing our jobs. She questioned why she was paying us - and then didn't. We didn't bury a drain that her plumber was responsible for. The member claims she saw a hump in the subfloor and our demo didn't convince her it was flat. Her floor person had no difficulty with our work. Months passed and there's still no floor. We can't finish."
