Baltimore window installation grinds to a halt
I want the proof!
COMPLAINT: Loral and Todd Smith, Baltimore
"We hired Capital Remodeling Inc. to install new windows. We put one-third of the cost down, which we had no problem doing. The balance was due upon completion of the job.
Hasn't responded to Louise Tauter's complaint about removing the wrong plants and trees from her yard. Third month in the box.
Didn't respond to David Pinkler's request to cancel his landscaping service. Third month in the box.
Aladdin Appliance Service
Didn't address Mary and Gerald Seldin's complaint about not fixing their washing machine to their satisfaction. Third month in the box.
Harper's Kitchens & Appliances
Hasn't responded to Michelle Hindin's request for a refund for her new dishwasher that she says they installed incorrectly. Second month in the box.
"They called, asking if they could set an earlier date for installation, and we agreed. Then we received a call saying we needed to send a copy of a certified check of payment, and they'd do the work on our original install date, once they received that copy."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We want the windows to be installed per our contract without proof of balance."
RESPONSE: Mark Vandegrift, general manager, Capital Remodeling Inc.
"As per the contract, proof of balance is a provision that's to be presented to us at least ten days before the install. We'll proceed with the contract without proof of balance and agree to the desired resolution with one small change.
"Proof of balance for the full amount is to be presented to the installers when they arrive on site. Once they've shown proof of balance, the install may proceed. Once the installers have completed the job and the members are satisfied with the project as per the contract, the balance is to be given to the installers."
