COMPLAINT: Sylvester Price, Atlanta
"I hired Handyman Connection in College Park to hang a couple of screen doors, rescreen my patio, stain a kitchen door and do a roofing repair. The patched part of my roof now leaks worse than before. They refused to put a coat of polyurethane over the door stain. They also stripped some paint away when they replaced the screens and left a lot of staples sticking out of the screen. When I addressed these issues, the owner said I was nitpicking. "
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $787.50 refund."
RESPONSE: Helen Atteberry, general manager, Handyman Connection - College Park
"After our craftsman completed all items on the contract, the member refused to pay. I found the work to be in accordance with accepted trade practices, but the member pointed out several small items he wasn't happy with. At that time, our craftsman spent three hours fixing all the items except applying polyurethane to the door, which was not on the contract. The member signed our contract under 'all work inspected and approved,' but still refused to pay the full price agreed to in the contract. We'll be happy to adjust the doors the member says are not working properly within the next week if he'll allow us to. We feel we've made reasonable efforts to please him and that we deserve to keep the money the member paid for his work."
