Appliance repair in Pittsburgh proves problematic
COMPLAINT: Kerry Kennelly, Pittsburgh, Pa.
"I hired Mr. Appliance [652 Center Ave, West View] to replace a power cord on my dryer. They installed the wrong cord, and it keeps tripping the breaker.
"They insisted it was the outlet box and not the cord. I had an electrician replace the outlet box.
"I called Mr. Appliance after the electrician left to make a complaint that my dryer was still not working. When they called me back, they insisted the new cord installed was the same as the one they replaced, and it was not."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want my money back so I can afford to get another person to fix the dryer."
RESPONSE: Edwin Moore, owner, Mr. Appliance
"I'm willing to give a full refund of $194.19 to the customer due to the fact that she does not want me to return to her home.
"The dryer in question is a series 1978 to 1984 Speed Queen Gas Dryer. Maytag bought Speed Queen in 1986, and Whirlpool bought Maytag approximately 5 years ago.
"Whirlpool has repackaged or eliminated all Maytag parts. They discontinued the member's dryer cord. The cord we found was identical to her old one except for the color.
"Our technician advised that the outlet on the wall was bad and needed to be replaced because the plastic was broken and the cord touched the metal cover, which caused it to blow the breaker."
