Angie's List Top Doctors & Dentists

You wanted a list of doctors and dentists worthy of consideration.  Here it is. Angie's List Top Doctors and Dentists as rated by consumers.

For more than five years now, Angie's List members have been sharing their health care experiences with us, evaluating thousands of providers in hundreds of categories using an A to F scale. Members review various aspects of care, including availability, office environment, punctuality, staff friendliness, bedside manner, communication, effectiveness of treatment, and billing and administration.

In 2011, we began recognizing some categories of health care providers, which members rated highest and most often with the Angie’s List Super Service Award. We used even more stringent criteria to determine our first ever list of Top Dentists and Doctors who grace this special report.

Primary care doctors and dentists

The primary care providers who earned our editorial recognition — in the categories of general dentistry, pediatrics, and family and internal medicine — had to qualify for the 2012 Angie’s List Super Service Award, which required they be in good standing with Angie’s List and have a current and overall grade of A, and a minimum number of reviews in the reporting period. They also needed an even higher grade point — putting them in the top 7 percent of dental or primary care providers eligible for the SSA nationwide.

Take a look at the first Angie's List Top Doctors and Dentists list through the eyes of the Angie's List staff, members and the health care providers.

This year’s list contains practices Angie's List members have been thrilled with, individual doctors and dentists who earned a spot on their own merits, as well as providers who made the cut along with their practices. We confirmed that individual providers and those in small practices (fewer than four) had a current state medical or dental license and no disciplinary actions on their record. Thanks to a new tool we developed, you can now check medical licensing through Angie's List.

The American Board of Medical Specialties also stresses checking your primary care provider at to confirm he or she is board certified. Although voluntary, approximately 85 percent of all doctors have this certification, which means they’ve successfully completed accredited training and are engaged in continuing education. The American Dental Association recognizes nine board certifications in specialities ranging from orthodontics to periodontology, and roughly 20 percent of dentists earn one of these while less than 1 percent are certified by the American Board of General Dentistry. You can learn more about board certification via the ADA or by contacting the ABGD.

Unlike other Top Doctor lists, which tend to rely on proprietary algorithms and/or peer endorsements, our list stem from glowing doctor reviews written by Angie's List members. We encourage members to honestly evaluate their experiences, as they are instrumental in helping others choose providers.
