Angie's List can help guide new and expecting parents
As parents can attest and expecting parents will soon find out, your child’s safety and well-being is always a top priority. Whether you’re choosing a pediatrician, childproofing your home or finding a suitable child care provider, you want the person you hire to really deliver quality service.
Over the years, we've added quite a few categories designed specifically to help parents. We have more than 20 categories for pediatric specialists, ranging from allergists and cardiologists to primary care pediatricians.
Since adding medical reviews to Angie's List last year, it's been no surprise that pediatricians have become one of our most requested health categories. We also have reports on doulas for prenatal consultation and providers who offer ultrasound diagnostics.
For parents who want to prepare their baby for an active lifestyle, we have reports on playground equipment companies that can offer advice on age-appropriate equipment and install it correctly and safely. We even cover hard-to-find services like toy repair and baby equipment rental, where you can get anything from cloth diapers to high chairs, cribs and toys.
And whether you need a break every once in a while or full-time care, we have reports on local child care providers.
Charlotte member Valerie Kopetzky turned to Angie's List to find a pediatrician close to her home. Like most new parents, Valerie and her husband, Brian, were worried about finding a pediatrician with whom they'd be comfortable.
The first doctor she found was close to home but the reviews she read made her think she wouldn't mesh well with him. She kept looking and sure enough, she found reports that spoke to the issues most important to her.
"Knowing that children have to go to the pediatrician once a month, at least for the first part of their life, and not knowing what to expect, it was very important to find one we felt comfortable with as parents," Kopetzky says. "I liked how [the doctor we chose] was described by some of the members. It sounded like a fit to me."
I was really happy to learn the Kopetzkys got more from Angie's List than a great pediatrician. In preparing the nursery, they reached back to our classic services, too, finding a carpet cleaner, a carpenter to install shelving, a painter who would work with low-volatile organic compound paint, and a moving company to remove some heavy items from the nursery.
Our members asked us to expand into health care, and their response to it has been amazing to watch. We're all very happy that it's been received so well. We'll keep looking for ways to expand our offerings of services for parents.
