Look up a company. Call. Get a voice mail. Leave a message. Repeat. And repeat again.
Face it, even armed with data from Angie’s List, getting an actual plumber to your door still can be a hassle. Angie’s List is changing that. Our new mobile app, SnapFix, is transforming the way America hires local service providers by bringing simple utility to the palm of your hand. In a few easy clicks, you can tell us what you need to have done and Angie’s List will put you in touch with top-rated service providers.
For example, Irvington, Ind., member John Goodson didn’t want to waste any time finding a company to plaster and repair his ceiling and drywall, damaged after a water leak. In the past, he says, service providers often didn’t return phone calls and sometimes missed appointments. With the SnapFix app, he simply took a picture of the hole in his ceiling, described the work he needed and selected three different time frames for the job.
Angie’s List responded within hours to give him options and, through the app, he accepted an estimate from highly rated Home Experts, an Indianapolis construction firm. Goodson, who was thrilled with the company’s work, used SnapFix again to pay with the credit card attached to his Angie’s List membership.
“It was much simpler than sorting through 50 people, and then trying to contact all of them and set up appointments,” Goodson says. “I’m tempted to take a picture of the tons of other projects that I need to have fixed that I can’t necessarily even put words to, because a picture speaks a thousand words.”
How does it work?
The app focuses on specific services including plumbing, handyman, electrical, roofing, HVAC, housecleaning, landscaping, interior painting, moving, tree service, pest control and yard work. Members can request other services too, but the concierge team assists them through phone and email instead, outside the SnapFix program.
Through the app, you can describe the work you need, list the days and time frame you want the job done and take a picture or video to go along with the project description. Once a request is submitted, an Angie’s List concierge representative contacts pre-approved companies to offer an estimate.
In some cases, a service provider may first ask for an on-site visit to look at the work needed. You can accept or reject a quote by using your smartphone. And accepting an estimate doesn’t mean you’re accepting a contract. You and the service provider will agree on a final price, and contract if needed, when you meet face-to-face. Angie’s List encourages members to carefully read any contract before signing.
The ultimate goal: Help members get their projects scheduled and finished as efficiently as possible, says Evan Wible, Angie’s List concierge team manager. “This is an opportunity for us to make our members’ lives a heck of a lot easier,” he says.

With the new SnapFix app, members don’t need to search through companies or make multiple phone calls. They can make a service request with their cellphone, and the Angie’s List concierge team responds by presenting options of highly rated companies to perform the job, and in most cases, quotes.
“SnapFix offers members service without any of the headaches that sometimes come with trying to schedule work,” says Angie’s List co-founder Angie Hicks. “We do that by sending service companies with a track record for stellar service.”
To be eligible for SnapFix, companies must maintain a high rating on Angie’s List and pass a background check.
Like Home Experts, Budget Right Handyman, based in Oak Park, Ill., is one of those companies, with a high rating based on more than 750 reviews. The company attributes its superior service record to a simple philosophy: Making the customer happy, says Tim Cornell, company manager. “All of our men stand 100 percent behind their work,” he says. “Once we’ve swung the hammer, we own it, and we’re going to do the best we can for you.”
