7 ways to make the most of your garage
Don’t let your garage become an afterthought. Whether it’s a one-car, two-car or “lucky-to-be-you” garage, consider some different ways to create a versatile space to store your autos and outdoor paraphernalia. Check out one of the highly rated garage organization companies on Angie’s List to do the dirty work for you.
Hire a pro to install an insulated door. It will give your home's exterior a fresh new look while buffering the noise and weather.
Keep like items, such as sporting gear and kids' toys, grouped together so you'll know where to look when you need them.
Clear the clutter
Once you decide what must go, donate items that are in good condition to a local charity. Then, call a hauling service to load up the rest and take it away.
Hang bicycles on ceiling hooks along the side of the garage or over the hood of your car. Install a floor-to-ceiling bike rack if you're storing bikes for the whole team.
Keep it green
The garage is a great place to store recycling bins, but more than that, be sure you know how to properly recycle old paint, motor oil and household chemicals that are often stored here. Call your local health or solid waste agency and ask about collection programs.
Hang it up
Hang shelves or install sturdy cabinetry to keep your stuff off the floor. Items left on the floor run the risk — if even the slightest — of being run over.
Create a workspace
If you’ve got the room, set up a table or bench to use for gardening, woodworking or just a spot to drop the grocery bags until you get the kids out of the car.
