So, you’ve decided to have your porch tuck pointed. But how do you go about selecting a mason for the job?
According to the Mason Contractors Association of America, qualified masons are trained to work with a variety of materials, including natural rock, clay and concrete brick, and tiles made of terra cotta, ceramic or stone. Here are 10 questions you should ask a potential masonry contractor.

3. Are you experienced in cutting and laying patterns? You may have something special in mind and want to fit various types of stone or brick together.
4. When do you think you expect to complete the work? It’s always good to have a tentative plan in place. While it may take longer than originally thought, at least you will know approximately how long your project may last.

8. What will the project cost, and what is the payment schedule? The cost is central to your ability to complete the project. You may be asked to pay up to half upfront, which covers the cost of materials, but set dates for paying out the remainder. Hold the final payment until you are completely satisfied with the work.
9. Who will secure the materials? There are some instances where you might be able to secure the materials yourself at a cheaper price than the mason.
