William S. Oesterle
Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer
Bill Oesterle is co-founder of Angie’s List and has served as a board member since its inception in 1995. He joined the management team of Angie’s List as chief executive officer in 1999. Prior to that, Oesterle was a partner with CID Equity Partners, a Midwest-based venture capital firm. In 1987, Oesterle was recognized as an Indiana State Governor’s Fellowship Finalist and served as administrative assistant to Indiana Gov. Robert Orr, with responsibility for international trade and relations. In 1988, he was appointed as director of corporate affairs for the Hudson Institute, a public policy research institute located in Indianapolis. In 1999, Indianapolis Business Journal selected Oesterle as a “Forty Under 40” honoree for outstanding professional achievements.
Oesterle currently serves on the Board of Directors for Purdue University and The National Bank of Indianapolis. In addition, Oesterle founded and currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program. In 2004, he managed the successful campaign for current Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
Oesterle earned a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1992 where he was awarded a Horace W. Goldsmith Fellowship. He graduated from Purdue University in 1987 with an honors degree in economics.
Angie Hicks – “The Angie”
Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer
As the sole employee in 1995, Angie Hicks started what would become Angie’s List in Columbus, OH. After enlisting more than 1,000 members in the first year, Angie laid the foundation for what would become one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. Since then, she has helped lead an expansion from a 100-square foot office to an operation of 400-plus employees that now boasts more one million members in 124 cities across the U.S.
In addition to her leadership of the marketing strategy for Angie’s List, Angie is the face of the Angie’s List brand and a regular contributor to print and broadcast news stories across the country. Among them are CNN, The Today Show, The Washington Post, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Redbook, Real Simple, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. In addition, Angie is director of The Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program. In 2002, Indianapolis Business Journal selected Angie as a “Forty Under 40” honoree for outstanding professional achievements.
Angie holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University, in Greencastle, IN, which named her a 2007 Distinguished Alumni for Management and Entrepreneurship.
Scott A. Brenton
Chief Operating Officer
Scott Brenton joined Angie’s List as chief operating officer in 1999. Prior to that, he served as dealer relations manager for the venture-backed company Dealer Monitoring Acquisitions Corporation (DMAC), a Cleveland-based specialty finance corporation serving the home security industry. Brenton also worked in several capacities, most notably as business development manager, at Cleveland-based S&R Systems, an entrepreneurial software company specializing in products for the public safety market. In 1994, CID Equity Partners selected Brenton as the State of Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellow, which resulted in a yearlong appointment at the firm.
Brenton earned an MBA at Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in industrial management at Purdue University.
Michael M. Holt
Executive Vice President of Advertising
Michael M. Holt, a founding member/owner of Angie’s List, serves as the Executive Vice President of Advertising. Prior to joining Angie’s List, he served as President of Holt Sublimation Printing and Products. He spent five years as Vice President of Holt Hosiery Mills and also served as executive manufacturing manager of Burlington Industries, Inc. Early in his career, Holt served as an investment banking analyst for Merrill Lynch Interfunding, Inc.
In addition to serving as a board member at Angie’s List, Holt is on the board of Holt Hosiery Mills, and DynaYarn USA LLC. He is a Trustee at Alamance Regional Medical Center and Burlington Day School. He is also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and has served in numerous positions for the church.
Holt earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1992 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Davidson College with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
Tim Harvey
Chief Financial Officer
Tim Harvey came to Angie’s List in 2008 as its chief financial officer. Prior to joining Angie’s List, Harvey was the vice president of planning for WebEx Communications, which is now a part of Cisco Systems. Before his posting at WebEx, Harvey held a variety of executive roles, including senior director of investor relations and senior director of financial planning and analysis at VERITAS Software, now part of Symantec. Harvey, who has more than 20 years experience in finance and accounting, was senior manager of corporate planning and held several international controller roles at Silicon Graphics. Harvey also spent seven years at IBM in various roles in financial planning, pricing and accounting. He started his career at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte and Touche) as a senior auditor.
Harvey earned an MBA from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in government from Wesleyan University.
Gary Rush
Vice President, Technology
Gary Rush joined Angie’s List in 2007 as the vice president of technology. Prior to Angie’s List, he served for 3 years as the VP of technology and operations at ExactTarget, an Inc. 500 company. Rush spent nine years at Made2Manage Systems Inc (Now Consona Corporation) where he served as vice president of development, chief technical officer, and VP of sales. He helped lead Made2Manage through a successful IPO. Prior to joining Made2Manage Systems, Rush was president of Micro Data Base Systems Inc., a provider of relational and network database management software, and held various positions during his 14-year tenure, including chief operating officer, vice president of development and vice president of consulting. On four separate occasions, Rush has led technology teams to the Mira Award, the top technology award in the Indiana.
Rush holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Science in Management (MSM/MBA) from Purdue University
